Alec Pearson enjoys a dynamic career based in Vancouver, where he serves as a sessional instructor of guitar at the University of British Columbia and teaches at the Vancouver Academy of Music. He has performed both as a soloist and with ensembles across Canada, Spain, Colombia, Greece, and the United States. Since the pandemic, Alec has rekindled his passion for composition and is now active as a “composer-performer.”
Alongside his artistic work, Alec is deeply engaged in community building. Since 2017 he has served as chair of the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society, helping present concerts, lectures, masterclasses, and outreach events. He also directs the annual Okanagan Guitar Festival, held every summer in the Okanagan Valley. This work continues to provide a vital platform for students and guitar enthusiasts in Western Canada, with many Vancouver students going on to win competitions and prizes abroad.
Alec earned the Máster en Interpretación de Guitarra Clásica from the Universitat d’Alacant in Alicante, Spain, where he studied with some of the world’s leading guitarists, including David Russell, Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Roberto Aussel, Paul Galbraith, and Fabio Zanon. He also holds a Master’s degree from the University of British Columbia, where he worked closely with his longtime mentor, Daniel Bolshoy, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal.
Originally from Calgary, Alec began his guitar studies with Jose Fermin and became active in the Classical Guitar Society of Calgary as a young performer. He began teaching at 17, launching a career that continues to blend performance, education, and community leadership.
